ALLDAY PROJECT 'CRASH' Explained: The 'Cullen Family' Nickname, the Hidden Korean Pun & the Easter Egg You Missed

ALLDAY PROJECT is finally back. Nine months after their first EP, The Black Label's co-ed five-piece — Annie, Tarzzan, Bailey, Woochan and Youngseo — dropped their 2nd EP CRASH on September 28 at 6PM KST, title track and all. Day One, I hope you stretched first. Because I didn't, and I'm paying for it.

But here's the thing: the English coverage mostly stops at "they're back." The Korean side of this comeback has a lot more going on — a vampire-family nickname, a label statement with a sneaky linguistic pun, and an easter egg that was hiding on Tarzzan's arm for weeks. Let's go.

What Happened: The 9-Month Wait Is Over

Quick recap for anyone just joining. ALLDAY PROJECT debuted on June 23, 2025 with the single album FAMOUS — and yes, that's the mixed-gender group whose name reportedly came from will.i.am, the Black Eyed Peas producer, after he saw the five members together. FAMOUS even cracked the Billboard Global 200 at No. 94. Then came "ONE MORE TIME" in November and their first EP, ALLDAY PROJECT, in December 2025.

And then… quiet. Annie went back to Columbia University for the spring semester. There was the PUBG collab single "I DON'T BARGAIN" in March and a Singapore fansign, but no proper comeback. By early September, even Koreaboo was running a "what happened to ALLDAY PROJECT?" piece. Fans were restless. Honestly? So was I.

On September 14, The Black Label finally confirmed it: 2nd EP CRASH, September 28. The teasers came as a "project approval letter," an invitation card engraved with the CRASH pattern, and an image of a key. Very on-brand for a group literally called a project.

Two Pre-Releases Before the Title Track

Instead of one teaser and done, ALLDAY PROJECT warmed up with two full music videos before release day:

  • 'TALK' (Sept 21) — a hip-hop track built on a dark, gritty bassline with sharp flows and a big hook. Korean press described its message as the group answering the outside gazes aimed at them head-on.
  • 'DO IT LIKE THIS' — a second pre-release MV with a totally different mood.

Then on September 25 came the 'CRASH' teaser: the five of them at a party, dancing like nobody's filming (somebody was). The label describes 'CRASH' as a song about a bold attitude that refuses to be bound by fixed rules — and deliberately a different color from both pre-releases.

What 'CRASH' Actually Means — The Korean Pun English Coverage Missed

This is my favorite part. In its Korean announcement, The Black Label described the album as a declaration that the group will collide with the existing "grammar" of K-pop and make its own 파열음 (pa-yeol-eum).

Now, 파열음 literally means "the sound of something bursting or rupturing" — a crash, basically. But it's also the Korean linguistics term for a plosive consonant (think p, t, k). So "breaking the grammar" and "making a plosive" is a language joke stacked inside the album concept. Crash against the rules of the language, and the sound you make is literally a grammar term. I don't know if a copywriter giggled writing that, but I did reading it.

The official album intro adds a second line worth translating properly: 부딪힐수록 선명해지는 자유로운 확신 — roughly, "a free-spirited conviction that only gets sharper the harder it collides." Not "the more they struggle," not "despite hardship." The collision is the point. That's the whole EP thesis in eight Korean words.

The Easter Egg on Tarzzan's Arm

Korean fans caught this one early. When ALLDAY PROJECT performed at the 2026 KMA, Tarzzan had a bandage on his arm with the word "CRASH" written on it. During their acceptance speech they'd also hinted that an album was coming soon. A few weeks later, on September 14, "CRASH" was confirmed as both the album name and the title track. Planned from day one. Respect.

It's also only the second time an ALLDAY PROJECT release shares its name with its title track — the first was the debut single FAMOUS. The new EP runs 5 tracks, about 13 minutes, with 'CRASH' sitting at track 2.

🇰🇷 THE KOREAN SIDE: "The Cullen Family of K-Pop"

If you only read English K-pop news, you've probably never heard this, but in Korea ALLDAY PROJECT has been compared to the Cullens — yes, the vampire family from Twilight — since debut. Ilgan Sports ran its comeback preview under exactly that framing: five members with sharply different personalities who somehow read as one unified, slightly dangerous household when they stand together. Pale-ish, cool, nobody smiling on purpose. You can't unsee it now. Sorry.

The same outlet noted that right after the teaser dropped, Korean online reactions were largely positive about the song's structure and how each member was used. Korean media also leaned hard on the "9개월 만에" (first in nine months) framing — and on the visuals: black suits, bandanas, leather jackets. On release morning, the five appeared at a photocall for a CRASH pop-up store at Musinsa Myeongdong in Seoul, which Korean press covered almost entirely as a fashion moment.

🌍 THE GLOBAL SIDE: Relief, Mostly

Internationally, the dominant emotion was relief. Before the announcement, a post about the members' visuals went viral with the caption that they'd gone nine months without an album but their visuals were "only getting better" — and the replies were mostly fans asking where is the music. Global fans also tend to frame ALLDAY PROJECT through the co-ed angle first, since mixed-gender idol groups are still rare enough to be the headline.

📊 THE GAP

Korean coverage talks about concept and image — the Cullen aura, the fashion, the "breaking the grammar" declaration. Global coverage talks about schedule and existence — are they back, when, why so long. Neither side is wrong. But if you want to understand why this EP looks the way it does, the Korean framing explains more: CRASH is less "comeback" and more a mission statement about refusing a fixed format.

Why It Matters

Co-ed groups have historically struggled to find a lane in modern K-pop, where fandoms are built around single-gender teams. ALLDAY PROJECT's debut proved the format could chart. CRASH is the test of whether it can sustain — whether a project group with a long gap can come back with an identity strong enough that the question stops being "are they still active?" and starts being "what will they try next?" The label's own line is that not settling into one genre or format is the direction. This EP is them putting that on record.

💬 Jamie's Take

Look — nine months is forever for a rookie group, and I was ready to be a little bitter. Then I read the Korean press kit and hit that 파열음 line, and honestly I forgave everything. A group that names its whole comeback after "crashing into the grammar" and then hides the title on a bandage at an award show? That's a team that knows exactly who it wants to be. Whether the Cullen-family aura turns into real chart staying power is the open question. But as a statement? It landed. Loudly.
